A Message From the Deans

Congratulations, Class of 2021! You did it!

You have worked hard and overcome many obstacles to get to this point. The past year has been particularly challenging, but you have persevered. We are excited to join your families, friends, and supporters in celebrating you and all of your accomplishments. 

You have maintained rigorous academic standards, produced impressive original research, and gotten involved in causes and extracurricular activities that speak to you. You have committed yourselves to making our campus an inclusive place for all. As members of one of the most diverse classes in UCSB’s history, you have made our community stronger and more vibrant. 

You graduate from this university knowing how to collaborate with others, how to have fun while working hard, and how to use the tools of academic inquiry to make the world a better place. We are thrilled to call you alumni of UC Santa Barbara, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.

Student Address

Now hear words of encouragement from one of your own—Ebelechukwu Eseka, Class of 2021. She graduates with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in History and Professional Writing. During her time at UC Santa Barbara, Ebelechukwu has devoted herself to making life better for her fellow students by successfully lobbying for changes to GOLD and to student summer funding. She is a Promise Scholar, a former Resident Assistant and a mentor to many. She also recently published her first independent research article in the second volume of the Undergraduate Research and Creative Studies Journal. After graduating, Ebelechukwu plans on applying to law school to become a public interest attorney.
